Description
A custom lapidary study hand-shaped and polished by artisan Ben V during our active archival workshop collections. This distinct, high-dome oval cabochon has been meticulously oriented and cut to isolate a premium vein of feldspar matrix, contoured specifically to highlight a vivid, directional blue optical flash across its polished surfaces.
The technical marvel centers entirely on the optical phenomenon of true labradorescence:
This intense blue flash is not a surface reflection or artificial pigment, but a brilliant light-interference effect occurring deep within the stone’s internal structure. As light penetrates the surface, it strikes sub-microscopic, alternating twin lamellae layers of exsolved albite and anorthite plagioclase feldspars. Rhythmic directional shifts under a focal light source track these light waves bouncing off the microscopic crystal planes, producing the dramatic, high-luster blue glare characteristic of top-tier Madagascar localities.
The design framework utilizes a highly specialized, sloped perimeter profile to concentrate this optical play across the maximum face radius while securing the structural integrity of the base matrix.
